Watch Out!

Watch Out!

Some of us at QubeGB are lucky enough to have new smart watches as a companion to our smart phones.  There was lots of hype in the technological world in 2013 about them, with many experts predicting they are the next big technological thing.  But will they be a replacement for the smart phone or tablet?  There are many reasons to change your traditional wrist watch for a smart version:

  • Save the battery life of your phone

We gave you some tips in a previous blog about how to get the most out of your mobile phone: http://qubegb.com/blog/2013/10/30/get-the-most-out-of-your-mobile-phone-battery.aspx.  Realistically though if you are out and about and need to use your phone, the battery can run down very quickly.  A smart watch can save your phone battery and allow you to still keep in touch.

  • Work on the move

A smart watch allows you to do many of the things that you do on your phone while you are out and about from taking a phone call, sending texts and answering emails and, as we pointed out, saving the battery power of your smart phone at the same time.

  • Because fitness counts

Many of us have apps on our phones that measure the number of steps that you have taken in a day or the calories you have burnt, or both.  But it can be quite hard to do this if your phone is tucked into your pocket whereas your smart watch is on your wrist and with you all the time so at the end of the day you can measure what you have achieved both in terms of output and fitness.

There are, however, some downsides to smart watches - they do tend to be on the large size so not to everyones taste and the battery life of three to four days could be improved upon.  The fact that all the key players, such as Acer, Apple, Blackberry, Foxconn/Hon Hai, Google, LG, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba, are developing them is testament to the fact they will be on the market for the foreseeable future.
